This year’s BVE exhibition brings the visitor face-to-face with DSLRs technology for the first time, as well as a treasure trove of and new accessories. The show is also delighted to announce free education on getting top results from the leading DSLR cameras.
Two years ago it was assumed that DSLR cameras would eventually capture HD video. So when camera manufacturers launched the first generation with moving image capture, it was no big surprise. The target audience the marketing spoke of was the paparazzi. This seemed to make complete sense. One year on and this laissez-faire attitude to DSLR video has been stopped dead in its tracks. The DSLR has arrived in the production community with a bang and made an impact that it could never have dreamt of with prize-winning DOPs and cinematographers shooting beautiful films on DSLRs.

November saw fireworks of the musical kind fill Berlin’s O2 World venue as the MTV European Music Awards rewarded some of the music industry’s most popular artists of 2009. With plenty of live performances between the business of handing out the gongs, Sennheiser supported the event for the seventh year in a row by providing microphones, in-ear monitoring systems and a great deal of technical assistance. |

Vinten Radamec, a Vitec Group brand, has supplied a Quattro SE pedestal with a Vision 250E head to Enfys Studios in Cardiff. The Quattro SE and 250E combination is specifically designed for work in conjunction with virtual environments, feeding high precision camera positioning detail to the graphics system to enable moves to be perfectly synchronised.
The new system was first used for Yn Yr Ardd (In the Garden), a pre-school series produced in HD by Flic Films for S4C. “The programmes create a magical world with an actor interacting freely with a number of animal puppets, all in a virtual world,” explained producer Sioned Eleri. “Our puppeteers are dressed in suits of Reflecmedia material, like the background, so we can key them out with the virtual environment. GTC takes to the air March 27 |

A workshop on Helicopter Shooting and Safety will be held by the Guild of Television Cameramen on Saturday March 27 at Denham Aerodrome, west London. The event will be hosted by broadcaster Mike Smith, founder and Managing Director of Flying TV which owns and operates the only freelance ready-to-go fleet of television helicopters in Europe. The Swiss Army certifies MillenniumHD for new film scanning suite |

The Swiss Army has installed a Cintel MillenniumHD film scanner and an imageMill GRACE image enhancer at its Electronic Media Centre in Bern. After extensive testing and evaluation of many film scanning solutions, the Swiss Army chose the MillenniumHD ‘data-cine’ film scanner fitted with 16mm and 35mm film gates, SD and HD video outputs and optical and magnetic sound options.
Film transfer expert Kathrin Schneider explained, “We looked at a number of film scanners but only MillenniumHD gave us the right combination of speed, image quality and flexibility. The internal colour correction is extremely powerful and, coupled with the imageMill GRACE film grain management solution, we are able to produce excellent High Definition transfers of our 16mm and 35mm material at real time in a single pass. Having a future upgrade path to 2K and 4K resolutions, at speeds up to 15fps was also very important to us.”
Simon Carter, Cintel’s Sales Director, commented, “The Swiss Army’s tests were quite exhaustive but we’re pleased to say that MillenniumHD was more than up for the job. We’re very honoured indeed to add such a prestigious organisation as the Swiss Army to the growing list of Millennium users.” |
