Soundcraft Vi1 Smaller, Lower Priced.....

Posted: 16/03/2010
With the Soundcraft Vi Series now firmly established as a firm favourite digital desk on both the touring, broadcast and installed sound scenes, Soundcraft have taken this amazing platform to another, more affordable level with the release of the new Vi1 console.

Many users have asked for a smaller, lower-priced desk that still has the acclaimed VistonicsTM user interface, and of course the now-legendary optimal sound quality established with the Vi Series.

So here it is, the Soundcraft Vi1TM.

A complete standalone console package with 32 channels of analogue input to 27 analogue outputs, plus 6 digital inputs, 4 Stereo FX Returns and 6 digital outputs in one chassis. As standard, Input to mix capacity is 46chs, but by adding a stagebox (compatible with the existing Vi racks), simultaneous channel count increases to 64. Channels are routable to 24 multifunction busses, plus LR and Mono Mix busses.

Unprecedented Level Of Clarity At The Payne County Courthouse

Posted: 16/03/2010
Designing sound systems for courtroom applications presents a host of challenges: acoustical, electrical and application-specific requirements make courtroom systems the most mission critical audio installations in the marketplace. After four subpar audio installations at the Payne County Courthouse in Oklahoma, Judge Worthington and the courthouse administration approached Aspen Custom Electronics with a special request to upgrade the courthouse audio system for good. Using an arsenal of AKG equipment which includes the WMS450 Wireless body pack, a DMM 4/2/2 Audio Mixer and two GN30 Goosenecks, Aspen Custom Electronics was able to do what four companies before it could not: install a clear and powerful audio system that exceeds everyone’s expectations.

According to Matt Hall, project manager for Aspen Custom Electronics, the courthouse’s audio system required so many revisions because of its many acoustical anomalies. Built in 1917, it was designed to provide optimal voice projection without the use of a PA system, so even the smallest sounds reverberate throughout the room, and a good portion of the front is covered in marble.  What’s more, the witness is able to turn up to 180 degrees while on the stand, looking from judge to jury, and many of the times their voice is very low and withdrawn.

New product for video and audio loudness checking and correction

Posted: 16/03/2010
VidCheck, a specialist developer of software tools for broadcasters, will be launching at NAB the brand new VidChecker software product - a new type of product which not only provides automated checking of file-based media but also intelligently automatically corrects video and audio problems (including audio loudness).

VidChecker checks video parameters and using unique VidCheck developed algorithms* can intelligently correct problems such as incorrect levels in a way which is not visible to the eye, overcoming the problems of so-called ‘legalisers’ which simply crush over-limit values often introducing unacceptable degradation and artefacts into the video images.

Junger Audio Unveils New TV Audio Processor

Posted: 16/03/2010
Dynamics processing specialist Jnger Audio will be unveiling a new TV Audio Processor at this year’s NAB Convention in Las Vegas (Booth SU7206). The device, which is primarily designed for TV playout facilities, will provide Loudness control, Upmix and surround sound processing for up to eight channels of audio.

Peter Prs, managing director of Jnger Audio, says: “This latest addition to our product range fulfils the quality requirements set by major broadcasters around the world. Maintaining loudness consistency is now a major issue for our industry and one that particularly affects playout facilities because they have absolutely no control over the broadcasted content’s average operating levels. Our new processor is designed to solve this problem for them in a very easy and cost effective way.”

Production To The Next Level With Studer OnAir 3000 Consoles

Posted: 25/02/2010
Radio Television Nacional de Colombia (RTVC) recently installed four Studer OnAir 3000 consoles. The facility has two radio stations: Radio Nacional de Colombia and Radionica, each having one OnAir 3000 console to broadcast their main signal. Radio Nacional has traditional programs with news and music, while Radionica adheres to a music-only format with more contemporary musical styles. Both stations operate without commercial programming, allowing for a diversity of content on each station.

Another of the OnAir 3000 consoles is installed in a production studio, where internal material is recorded for both Radio Nacional and Radionica, while the fourth OnAir 3000 serves as a backup console and main router of the system, broadcasting the two radio stations through this console, which connects all the studios together. Along with this fourth OnAir 3000 are two editing modules where journalists can record interviews and other short reports for news programming. In this booth, journalists have access to signals that belong to the other OnAir 3000 consoles, allowing them to control each console independently and, if they so desire, simultaneously.
